Wilkes-Barre Academy is committed to offering an advanced academic curriculum for students in pre-K through eighth grade. Students will be introduced to the following:
- Math basics through pre-Algebra and Algebra I in the seventh and eighth grades.
- Social Studies curriculum that includes state history, national, and world history, as well as geography. Many hands-on activities and projects are included.
- Science programs which cover Biology through Physics. Classes include laboratory and hands-on units.
- Science Fairs in grades two, four, six, and eight and the opportunity to participate in a Science Olympiad are also part of the program.
- English and Literature programs are writing intensive and introduce students to all genres of literature and styles of writing. These programs culminate in complete literary analysis/term papers using MLA guidelines that are consistent with high school requirements. A comprehensive language arts program that includes Phonics based reading instruction and a separate English program.
- Economicsprogram introducing 7th and 8th to the social science of analyzing production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.
- Word Study and Spelling programs which prepare students for SAT testing requirements.
- Spanish classes- grades K through 8
- Sign language- K
- Art classes throughout the entire year that introduce art periods and artists. During Middle School classes, students will explore all artistic periods and styles.
- Winter Follies Every grade participates in a yearly musical production presented on stage at a local theater.
- Computer classes in grades K through 8 that teach computer basics, keyboarding, Internet and research skills. Students also learn publishing programs, word processing programs and power point presentations in our completely modern, upgraded computer lab.
- Music lessons include reading sheet music, playing instruments, and music history.
