PTO Meeting Minutes

November 20, 2017

Officers present: Lisa Barth-President, Kristen Cooper-Vice President, Brittany Holly-Treasurer *The meeting was called to order by Lisa Barth, President at 6pm. Motion to accept the previous meeting minutes was made by Terri Smith and seconded by Debbie Cooper. All in favor.

*Treasurer- Brittany Holly read the current balance of $13, 437.16 for the Treasurer’s Report. Motion to accept was made by Joan Corbett and seconded by Janice Huntzinger. All in favor.

*It was noted that the PTO bulletin board is located inside the entry door near Kindergarten. Please check for announcements and upcoming events.

*A discussion was held in reference to the success of the Fall Festival. There was a lot of positive feedback. 85% of the students in grades K-8 attended as well as many younger children from Small Wonders. The PTO would like to thank homeroom parents, teachers, administration, staff and parent volunteers for all the help and support in making the event a success. The event was held at no cost to families. The total cost for the event was $2,688.28. We will be visiting the idea of changing the bounce houses at the event.

*In October, Firefighter Sam Fox and the firefighters from the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department provided fire safety training to our students. A plaque was presented by 4th grade student LondonMarie Moore to recognize them for the great job they do. London had a fire at her home and utilized what she learned to help her family to safety.

*The Santa Shop will be held on Dec 5th-7th. We are looking for 6-8 parent volunteers to help the children shop. We also need some help for setup and breakdown. If you are interested please contact your homeroom parents. Setup is on Mon Dec 4th at 10am in the library. Breakdown is on Thurs Dec 7th at 11:30 am in the library. A list of times each grade will be shopping is posted on the PTO Bulletin Board by the entry door by Kindergarten. Envelopes and times for shopping will be sent home.

*Night at the Races- we are exploring options for a new location for the event. Independent Fire Hall, St. Maria Goretti and St. Peter and Paul’s are being considered.

*Vouchers-The Holiday Schedule is posted and was e-mailed. 2016 voucher credits MUST BE REDEEMED BY THE END OF 2017 OR THEY WILL BE VOID.

*Ski Club-A new Bulletin Board for signups is located across from the 3rd grade classroom. We are just waiting for snow to ski.

*Basketball-No report at meeting time, but be aware to check for postings and communications shortly.

*Student Council: The Halloween Dance was held in October. 2 Projects coming up. December 4-8th Ugly Quilters donations. December 11th-15th Children’s Advocacy Center. Please donate if possible. The location to drop items will be in the cafeteria. Check the board in the cafeteria for the next skating party.

*Science Olympiad-Building events are underway. The team is in need of a volunteer that would be able to help the students with an event called Mystery Architecture that builds a bridge or tower that can hold an unspecified amount of weight. Anyone with basic construction knowledge that could guide the students would be much appreciated. They are having sessions on Dec 9th and 16th to work on projects. *Academics-Mrs. Huntzinger reported that the school has not received the reports from the National Testing from last school year. Students in odd grades that were tested last year, will receive the results as soon as they arrive. Dec 18th second quarter progress report will be out. Report cards to follow in January.

*New Business-Winter Follies will take place on Jan 13th at Misericordia University.

*Since the PTO has been doing the Night at the Races we have additional monies in the account. To utilize this money for the children and parents that have raised the money we have asked the teachers to create wish lists for each classroom. The total of the list is $2,498.15. A motion was made by Joan Corbett to purchase the items on the list, it was seconded by Terri Smith. All in favor.

*A discussion to change the start time of the PTO meeting was discussed in hopes of better parent attendance. For the January PTO meeting the start time will be changed to 5pm,. Children are welcome to attend, they will stay in a classroom together for the meeting. The PTO meeting is normally under an hour and is a great source of information on events and progress occurring at our school. Hope to see you there.
