Science Olympiad
Eighth, seventh, and sixth grade students in good academic and behavioral standing are invited to join a 15 member competition team. The team competes at the regional Science Olympiad held at Penn State Lehman Campus. Eligible students can also elect to become understudies. An understudy works with the competitors to prepare for the events and comes along to observe the competitions.
Participation in Science Olympiad has recently been recommended by the National Governor’s Association as a primary resource for furthering science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. Twenty five to thirty schools attend the annual competition from our area.
Wilkes-Barre Academy Science Olympiad teams have been consistently successful because of the work ethic of the students and participation of adult mentors. Please feel free to visit the International Science Olympiad Organization at www.soinc.org and the Northeast Regional Science Olympiad at www2.wb.psu.edu/uwt/nepascioly/index.asp?page=home
Fundraising for the Wilkes-Barre Academy Science Olympiad team is done through ecologically minded activities. Currently, we collect used cell phones and used printer cartridges for recycling by Phone Raiser and Office Max. The cell phones and printer cartridges are collected year round in the science classroom. Please visit their sites at www.phoneraiser.com and www.officemaxperks.com.
